Scholarships

You have financial options with your college planning, and we're here to help you find the best options for your situation. Scholarships are available and can seem overwhelming, but we are here to help answer any questions you may have. Students can apply for scholarships at different times and for varying reasons.

Ideally, paying for your education is a long-term process of building and using a collection of savings, institutional aid, free money, and — if necessary — loans. However, there are many avenues for financing your education. Find out how financial aid and scholarships can help the financial pressure.

Every Cadet that contracts with the ROTC program receives a subsistence allowance of $420 each month they are enrolled in UL Lafayette, except for summer courses.

In addition to the subsistence allowance numerous scholarship options exist:

For High School Seniors

If you're graduating from high school and have already decided to join ROTC, you can compete for a national-based scholarship before November of your senior year. This is probably the easiest scholarship high school students will compete for. For more information, visit the US Army's scholarship page. Remember that this is a competitive process, and if you don’t get a scholarship while in high school, there are other opportunities.

Nursing Students

There are also nursing scholarships, specifically for nursing students. For more information, visit the Nurse Training and Scholarship Program page on the US Army's page.

Current Active Duty Service Members

Prospective Students currently serving on active duty can apply for Green to Gold Scholarships. For more information, visit the Green to Gold page on the US Army's page.

For College Students

While in college, you can compete for campus-based scholarships in various categories. Generally, after a semester, you can compete for a 2-year, 3-year or 4-year scholarship, depending on your major. You can also compete for a Guaranteed Reserve Forces Duty (GRFD) scholarship, which guarantees that, upon graduation and commission, you will serve as an officer in either the US Army Reserve or in the National Guard.

Students can select to place their scholarship towards tuition or room and board. In either case, Cadets are provided a book stipend of $600 every semester. Cadets select where to apply their scholarship after meeting with cadre to help you see the advantages and disadvantages of the two options.
